This experience is perfect for intermediate to advanced cyclists who enjoy challenging climbs, fast descents, and rugged trails, all while learning about Morocco’s history, culture, and natural beauty. Let’s dive into what you can expect!

Day 1: Arrival in Marrakech & Transfer to the Atlas Mountains

  • Distance: N/A
  • Elevation Gain: N/A

HighLights:
Arrival: Fly into Marrakech Menara Airport, where you will be met by your guide and transferred to your accommodation. You’ll be staying in a traditional riad or hotel in the city center, providing a perfect base to explore the vibrant culture of Marrakech before starting the MTB tour.
Afternoon: If you arrive early enough, take a chance to explore Marrakech. Wander through the medina, a UNESCO World Heritage site, with its labyrinth of narrow alleys, markets, souks, and beautiful gardens. The bustling Jemaa el-Fnaa square offers a sensory overload with street performers, snake charmers, and food stalls serving traditional Moroccan dishes like tagine and couscous.
Bike Setup: After checking into your accommodation, you will have the chance to assemble your bike and check your gear, with guidance from the tour’s bike mechanic. This will ensure your bike is in top shape for the days ahead.
Upon arrival in Marrakech, you'll be welcomed by your guide and fellow cyclists. After settling in, enjoy an introductory briefing about the tour itinerary, key safety tips, and bike setup. Your guide will discuss the route details, daily distances, and terrain challenges, ensuring you’re fully prepared for the adventure ahead. The briefing also includes an overview of local culture, what to expect on the roads, and a chance to ask any questions before starting the journey. End the day with a relaxed dinner, soaking in the vibrant atmosphere of Marrakech.

Day 2: Marrakech to Ourika - First Ride into the Atlas Mountains

  • Distance: 60-70 km
  • Elevation Gain: 1,500-2,000 m
Highlights:
Scenic Transfer: After breakfast, we leave the bustling city of Marrakech behind and head into the Atlas Mountains. A short transfer (approximately 1.5 hours) takes you to the starting point in Oukaimeden, a stunning ski resort located at 2,600 meters (8,530 feet) above sea level.
Climbing to Oukaimeden: Begin your ride with a gradual ascent through winding mountain roads. The first part of today’s route will be a mixture of dirt roads, rocky tracks, and technical climbs. The air is cooler and fresher as you ride through areas dotted with juniper and argan trees.
Rugged Trails & Villages: As you approach Oukaimeden, the trail becomes more rugged, offering plenty of opportunities for thrills. You’ll pass through remote Berber villages, where traditional mud-brick homes contrast with the natural landscape. The people of these villages live in harmony with nature, practicing agriculture, sheep herding, and handcrafts.
Descent & Views: The last section of the ride offers a spectacular descent, with views of the Oukaimeden Valley below. This is one of the most exciting portions of the day, with wide-open paths allowing you to really enjoy the fast downhill trails.
Evening in Oukaimeden: Upon arrival at Oukaimeden, take time to relax and enjoy the serene surroundings. The village is famous as the highest ski resort in North Africa, but outside of winter, it’s a great base for hiking and biking. You’ll stay in a local guesthouse, offering both comfort and authentic Moroccan hospitality.

Day 4: Imlil Valley to Toubkal Base Camp

  • Distance: 50-60 km
  • Elevation Gain: 1,800-2,000 m
Highlights:
Riding Higher: The fourth day of the trip takes you further into the Atlas Mountains, with a challenging route towards the base of Mount Toubkal (4,167 meters/13,671 feet), North Africa’s highest peak. Today’s ride will require technical riding skills, as you navigate steep ascents and descents on narrow, rocky trails.
Spectacular Views: As you climb, the views become even more breathtaking, with expansive vistas over the Imlil Valley, snow-capped peaks, and distant villages. The route provides a real challenge for cyclists, but the sense of achievement when reaching the base camp is unmatched.
Technical Terrain: This section of the ride involves sharp switchbacks, rocky paths, and narrow ridges. For the most experienced riders, the technical nature of this route provides a thrilling test. At the end of the day, you’ll arrive at the Toubkal Base Camp, where you’ll enjoy an evening of rest in mountain refuges.

Day 5: Toubkal Base Camp to Marrakech

  • Distance: 60 km
  • Elevation Gain: 800-1,000 m
Highlights:

The Final Descent: After a hearty breakfast, begin your final descent back towards Marrakech. This last leg is a combination of thrilling downhill sections and relaxing, scenic roads. The fresh mountain air, wide-open landscapes, and remote villages make this a fantastic conclusion to your MTB experience.
Stopping at Villages: On the way back, stop in local Berber villages for a final chance to connect with the people, see their crafts, and learn about their traditional way of life. You may also get a chance to visit an argan oil cooperative, where you’ll learn how this precious oil is made.
Return to Marrakech: Upon reaching Marrakech, you’ll be transferred back to your hotel or riad in the city. After checking in, the rest of the day is free to explore the city further or relax and reflect on the incredible adventure you’ve just completed.
